Extra login needed today… ?

A few users reported this to me, and it happened to a couple of my own computers, but only one of the two accounts at my house. I did ‘inspect’ the Firefox browser cookie for the site on my wife’s computer, and it was missing the cookie setting that allows automatic login. It was there earlier in the day. And the short of this is that I don’t know why or how that happened. It’s possible it was caused by a glitch behavior in the site, or possible a browser update. I updated the operating system on the site and rebooted the server, so fingers crossed that the behavior does not persist.

So far, those that had this happen were able to log in from the ‘home’ page and then the cookie was recreated, and then they could resume using their browser bookmark directly to the play panel (the list of games page).

Edit: I looked into this a bit… it’s *possible* the cookies on your browser clients expired, many at about the same time because of the site moving and people logging on for the first time a year ago (ish). After my trip this week I’ll research this more, I thought they’d last three years. Anyway, hopefully re-logging in is all there is to it, as that is completely benign, just a tiny hassle every year or three.

E-mails mostly not going out from site

Due to a lot of problem e-mails originating from the site (i.e. people trying to get reminders when they have an invalid entry in their settings), Google began to block e-mail being originating from Chez and Glad to notify users of completed games or new games. And more importantly, new members weren’t getting their welcome e-mail, and the password reminder wasn’t working for those who needed it.

So, I disabled most of the game-based reminder/notification e-mails originating from chez or glad until I can hopefully get it sorted and working again. I also set up a mechanism to better monitor what is going on (they are sent from an alternate account I have).

Hopefully in the next week or two, the new game/game end reminders that some of you requested can start to go out properly again.

And if you were getting those but didn’t want them, please click “Settings” button on the left and un-tick the box next to e-mail reminders. The less people who request them, potentially the better it will work for those who rely on them!
